Raspberry gin a fresh take on spring and summer spirits – GuelphToday.com

Guelph, Ontario, Canada, July 9, 2020 – With a nod to the past and an eye on the future, Dixon’s Distilled Spirits is proud to introduce their latest creation, Wicked Blueberry Gin.

Inspired by old-time sloe gin — a reddish-purple liqueur made from sloe drupes (blackthorn berries) steeped in sugar and gin — Wicked Blueberry is blend of Dixon’s award-winning, handcrafted Canadian spirits, blueberry extract and botanicals with a hint of citrus.

“Flavoured spirits, especially sweeter pink gins flavoured with berries and other fruits, are driving growth in the industry worldwide,” said Dixon’s co-founder Jeremie (JD) Dixon.

In fact, distillers have experimented with flavoured spirits for years. In the 1920s, Gordon’s had seven different flavour variants of gin but they were soon eclipsed by the dry, juniper-flavoured spirit that most people recognize as gin.

“We’ve created something that’s on trend and fun that appeals to people who might not consider themselves gin drinkers as well as traditionalists looking to try something a bit different from their usual G&T or martini.”

Look for Dixon’s Wicked Blueberry Gin at LCBO outlets across Ontario. The launch follows the rollout of a fresh new logo and branding that emphasizes Dixon’s bold, Canadian personality with the tagline ‘real taste, real spirits.’

“This year we’re celebrating five years in business and the branding refresh will help us take it to the next level as we develop new products and expand into new markets,” said Dixon. “We realized early on that we’re very good gin makers — Wicked Blueberry is a fun new twist on what we do best. It’s silky smooth like all of our products, but the violet-blue spirit turns pink when you add your favourite mixer. It’s not overly sweet like some fruit-flavoured spirits, so purists can rest assured that it’s real gin — it’s just blue, or pink, depending how you like to drink it.”

Don’t want to line up at the LCBO? Dixon’s Wicked Blueberry Gin is also available at the Dixon’s distillery and store located at 355 Elmira Road, Guelph, Ont.

April 28, 2020 — As the Government of Ontario prepares to reopen the economy over the coming months, the Dixon’s team is working to ensure that our friends and neighbours in the business community have the tools they need to keep their employees and customers safe.

Since March, we’ve been providing local hospitals and first responders with hand sanitizer made right here in the Dixon’s distillery according to the World Health Organization formulation: 80% ethyl alcohol, water, hydrogen peroxide and glycerin.

Now we’re making it available to businesses in the Guelph region in bulk format, 4-litre jugs and individual sizes.

“Dixon’s sanitizer has been formulated to serve the needs of the health-care sector and now we’re very pleased to be offering it to other businesses so we can all get back to work safely,” says Dixon’s co-founder JD Dixon.

Guelph, Ontario, Canada, May 1, 2019 – The spirit of innovation is alive and well at award-winning Dixon’s Distilled Spirits in Guelph, where they’re welcoming spring with the launch of Dixon’s Vodka Fusion.

A light, crisp blend of Dixon’s handcrafted vodka, Ontario apples, cranberries and pure sparkling water, Vodka Fusion is available at the the Dixon’s distillery store in Guelph as well as select bars and restaurants across Ontario.

Gluten-free with no added sugar, Dixon’s Vodka Fusion is a refreshing and healthy alternative to syrupy-sweet coolers full of artificial flavours and ingredients, said Dixon’s co-founder Jeremie (JD) Dixon.

“More and more Canadians are discovering what craft distillers have to offer, and the ready-to-drink beverage segment is booming, especially for vodka-based cocktails and coolers,” said Dixon. “At the same time, today’s consumers are looking for healthier alternatives and they’re choosing premium, locally-made products more often.”

According to Spirits Canada, sales of spirits in Canada grew by 3.2 per cent in 2018,  the largest year-over-year increase in more than a decade. Sales of spirits-based coolers and ready-to-drink cocktails jumped by 20.2 per cent.

The recipe for Vodka Fusion was developed by Vicky Dixon, JD’s wife and business partner. After experimenting with different combinations of natural fruit flavours, she landed on the perfect balance of sweet Ontario apples and tart cranberries.

Founded in 2013, Dixon’s Distilled Spirits uses the finest ingredients and Ontario-grown grain to produce a variety of hand-crafted gin, vodka and whisky products. In the past year, Dixon’s has racked up honours from the World Drinks Awardsfor Flaming Caesar Vodka, Wicked Citrus Gin and Wicked Licorice Gin. Dixon’s wicked smooth Silvercreek Vodka — known for its subtle aroma and crisp, clean taste with hints of pear and peppery spice — has been a big hit with premium vodka lovers at a non-premium price.

In addition to introducing a new product, Dixon’s is partnering with the LCBO in a co-branding promotion that features several Ontario distillers. Look for Vodka Fusion alongside other ready-to-drink brands in LCBO advertising, posters, murals, and social media marketing campaigns running from May through September across Ontario.

“We’re very excited to be working with the LCBO this summer to promote Vodka Fusion,” said Dixon. “This is a great way for innovative distillers to help each other while elevating their own brands and breaking into new markets. It’s a win-win for our businesses and our customers.”
