Raspberry gin a fresh take on spring and summer spirits – GuelphToday.com

Guelph, Ontario, Canada, July 9, 2020 – With a nod to the past and an eye on the future, Dixon’s Distilled Spirits is proud to introduce their latest creation, Wicked Blueberry Gin.

Inspired by old-time sloe gin — a reddish-purple liqueur made from sloe drupes (blackthorn berries) steeped in sugar and gin — Wicked Blueberry is blend of Dixon’s award-winning, handcrafted Canadian spirits, blueberry extract and botanicals with a hint of citrus.

“Flavoured spirits, especially sweeter pink gins flavoured with berries and other fruits, are driving growth in the industry worldwide,” said Dixon’s co-founder Jeremie (JD) Dixon.

In fact, distillers have experimented with flavoured spirits for years. In the 1920s, Gordon’s had seven different flavour variants of gin but they were soon eclipsed by the dry, juniper-flavoured spirit that most people recognize as gin.

“We’ve created something that’s on trend and fun that appeals to people who might not consider themselves gin drinkers as well as traditionalists looking to try something a bit different from their usual G&T or martini.”

Look for Dixon’s Wicked Blueberry Gin at LCBO outlets across Ontario. The launch follows the rollout of a fresh new logo and branding that emphasizes Dixon’s bold, Canadian personality with the tagline ‘real taste, real spirits.’

“This year we’re celebrating five years in business and the branding refresh will help us take it to the next level as we develop new products and expand into new markets,” said Dixon. “We realized early on that we’re very good gin makers — Wicked Blueberry is a fun new twist on what we do best. It’s silky smooth like all of our products, but the violet-blue spirit turns pink when you add your favourite mixer. It’s not overly sweet like some fruit-flavoured spirits, so purists can rest assured that it’s real gin — it’s just blue, or pink, depending how you like to drink it.”

Don’t want to line up at the LCBO? Dixon’s Wicked Blueberry Gin is also available at the Dixon’s distillery and store located at 355 Elmira Road, Guelph, Ont.

April 28, 2020 — As the Government of Ontario prepares to reopen the economy over the coming months, the Dixon’s team is working to ensure that our friends and neighbours in the business community have the tools they need to keep their employees and customers safe.

Since March, we’ve been providing local hospitals and first responders with hand sanitizer made right here in the Dixon’s distillery according to the World Health Organization formulation: 80% ethyl alcohol, water, hydrogen peroxide and glycerin.

Now we’re making it available to businesses in the Guelph region in bulk format, 4-litre jugs and individual sizes.

“Dixon’s sanitizer has been formulated to serve the needs of the health-care sector and now we’re very pleased to be offering it to other businesses so we can all get back to work safely,” says Dixon’s co-founder JD Dixon.

Guelph, Ontario, Canada, May 1, 2019 – The spirit of innovation is alive and well at award-winning Dixon’s Distilled Spirits in Guelph, where they’re welcoming spring with the launch of Dixon’s Vodka Fusion.

A light, crisp blend of Dixon’s handcrafted vodka, Ontario apples, cranberries and pure sparkling water, Vodka Fusion is available at the the Dixon’s distillery store in Guelph as well as select bars and restaurants across Ontario.

Gluten-free with no added sugar, Dixon’s Vodka Fusion is a refreshing and healthy alternative to syrupy-sweet coolers full of artificial flavours and ingredients, said Dixon’s co-founder Jeremie (JD) Dixon.

“More and more Canadians are discovering what craft distillers have to offer, and the ready-to-drink beverage segment is booming, especially for vodka-based cocktails and coolers,” said Dixon. “At the same time, today’s consumers are looking for healthier alternatives and they’re choosing premium, locally-made products more often.”

According to Spirits Canada, sales of spirits in Canada grew by 3.2 per cent in 2018,  the largest year-over-year increase in more than a decade. Sales of spirits-based coolers and ready-to-drink cocktails jumped by 20.2 per cent.

The recipe for Vodka Fusion was developed by Vicky Dixon, JD’s wife and business partner. After experimenting with different combinations of natural fruit flavours, she landed on the perfect balance of sweet Ontario apples and tart cranberries.

Founded in 2013, Dixon’s Distilled Spirits uses the finest ingredients and Ontario-grown grain to produce a variety of hand-crafted gin, vodka and whisky products. In the past year, Dixon’s has racked up honours from the World Drinks Awardsfor Flaming Caesar Vodka, Wicked Citrus Gin and Wicked Licorice Gin. Dixon’s wicked smooth Silvercreek Vodka — known for its subtle aroma and crisp, clean taste with hints of pear and peppery spice — has been a big hit with premium vodka lovers at a non-premium price.

In addition to introducing a new product, Dixon’s is partnering with the LCBO in a co-branding promotion that features several Ontario distillers. Look for Vodka Fusion alongside other ready-to-drink brands in LCBO advertising, posters, murals, and social media marketing campaigns running from May through September across Ontario.

“We’re very excited to be working with the LCBO this summer to promote Vodka Fusion,” said Dixon. “This is a great way for innovative distillers to help each other while elevating their own brands and breaking into new markets. It’s a win-win for our businesses and our customers.”

Dixon’s Distilled Spirits

Guelph, Ontario, September 17, 2018 – Dixon’s Distilled Spirits continues to expand its award-winning lineup of wicked smooth, small-batch spirits with the introduction of Wicked Licorice Gin, now available at the LCBO.

With a nod to gin’s rich history, Dixon’s developed its Wicked Licorice Gin recipe using pure spirits distilled from Ontario-grown corn and the all-natural flavours of licorice and anise, along with five other traditional botanicals. Earlier this year, Dixon’s Wicked Licorice was named Best Canadian Old Tom Gin at the 2018 World Gin Awards.

“It has a slightly sweeter, richer flavour than your typical London Dry Gin, which is the style of gin that most people are familiar with these days,” says Dixon’s co-founder Jeremie (JD) Dixon. “Up until the middle of the 20thcentury, Old Tom Gin was the most popular style and was an essential ingredient for any well-stocked cocktail bar. It’s incredibly versatile and suits any season — refreshingly different from the dry, tart gins that you might use in a summertime gin and tonic.”

All types of gin derive their flavour from juniper berries and a mix of various botanicals. Old Tom Gin originated in 18th-century England, where it soon supplanted Genever-style gin that dates back to 16th-century Holland and was made with a malt wine base. London Dry became the predominant style following Prohibition and the Second World War, but Old Tom has been enjoying a revival in recent years.

The Dixon’s team began developing Wicked Licorice by “playing around at home” with different combinations of botanicals until they arrived at the right balance of flavours.

“You need botanicals that will mesh together in the distilling process. There’s a lot of trial and error,” says Dixon, pleased to be expanding the company brand with another unique, fun product as Dixon’s Distilled Spirits celebrates its fifth anniversary.

“I love the position we’re in today compared to even a year ago. We’ve got a great team working together to make great products, getting behind a great story and building it together,” says Dixon. “We’ve grown year-over-year in every category. I think where we’re winning people is flavour — we say our gin is ‘Wicked Smooth’ because it is. It’s subtle, not overpowering, whereas some other gins have a bold, strong taste that turns people off. Wicked Citrus is so smooth and versatile and as for Wicked Licorice — who would have thought you could mix gin with root beer? It’s awesome!”

Guelph’s award-winning Dixon’s Distilled Spiritsis making a splash in North America’s booming craft distilling industry.

Leading the charge is Dixon’s Wicked Citrus Gin, recently named Best Canadian Gin in the Contemporary category for the second straight year by Gin Magazine’s 2018 World Gin Awards. Dixon’s Wicked Licorice Gin, coming to the LCBO this fall, was named Best Canadian Old Tom Gin. The industry recognition is another sign that Dixon’s no-nonsense focus on flavour and craftsmanship is a winning recipe for tapping into the market’s growing thirst for artisanal, small-batch spirits.

“We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished in just five years of being in business,” said Dixon’s co-founder Jeremie (JD) Dixon. “One thing we realized early on is that we’re very good gin makers, so we’ve focused a lot of our efforts on developing premium products like Wicked Citrus Gin and Gin Fusion Sparkling Lemon Cocktail, which we introduced in the spring.”

While today’s consumers are drinking less alcohol in general, they’re also more willing to spend a little more for high-quality, local products. Shifting demographics and consumer tastes are also fuelling expansion of the craft distilling sector in the United States, where the industry is expected to post a compound annual growth rate of 26 per cent over the next four years, according to a new report by Technavio market research.

“We’re seeing the potential for similar growth here in Canada,” said Dixon. “Consumers are more health conscious, so they’re drinking less, but they’re also placing a high value on authenticity and flavour. They want a high-quality, local product that’s made with passion and has a good story behind it.

“That’s where we deliver — we use only the best Ontario-grown ingredients, and we distill our gin 18 times, compared to the industry average of three to five times. The result is wicked smooth with a hint of citrus and peppery spice that’s perfect for a refreshing gin and tonic, or as a base in your favourite cocktail.”

Dixon’s Distilled Spirits

GUELPH, Ont., May 2, 2018 — Add a spicy new twist to a Canadian tradition with Flaming Caesar Vodka from Dixon’s Distilled Spirits.

The award-winning craft distiller is pleased to announce that its new Flaming Caesar Vodka (LCBO #545186) is available at LCBO stores across Ontario. Now you can mix a delicious, savoury Caesar just as easily as pouring a rye and coke. There’s nothing else like it on the market today, says Dixon’s co-founder Jeremie (JD) Dixon.

“Pre-mixed, canned Caesar cocktails sacrifice taste for convenience. That creates a unique opportunity for our premium product that offers convenience but also delivers on flavour big-time in a way that pre-mixed cocktails simply cannot match,” says Dixon.

Founded in 2013, Dixon’s Distilled Spirits uses Ontario-grown grain to produce a variety of hand-crafted gin, vodka and whisky products.

Made with Dixon’s signature Silvercreek Vodka, Flaming Caesar is naturally infused with hand-picked ingredients to create a vodka packed with flavour and heat. To make the perfect Caesar, just mix with your favourite brand of clam and tomato cocktail. No muss, no fuss.

It’s that no-nonsense focus on flavour and craftsmanship that continues to help Dixon’s win over fans with a taste for artisanal, small-batch spirits. It’s also earning kudos from the industry. This spring, Flaming Caesar Vodka was awarded best Canadian vodka in the Flavoured Vodka category at the 2018 World Vodka Awards. Dixon’s Wicked Licorice Gin and Wicked Citrus Gin were both winners at the 2018 World Gin Awards: Wicked Licorice was the best Canadian gin in the Old Tom Gin category, while Wicked Citrus was the best Canadian gin in the Contemporary category for the second year in a row.

Flaming Caesar Vodka is now available at over 150 LCBO outlets across Ontario along with Dixon’s other new offering, Gin Fusion Sparkling Lemon Cocktail (LCBO # 554014). A crisp and refreshing blend of Wicked Gin and pure sparkling water naturally flavoured with lemon, Gin Fusion is a delicious low-sugar alternative to syrupy-sweet coolers.
