Have a wicked smooth August long weekend with Dixon’s Wicked Citrus Gin

Frozen Peach Negroni

Guelph’s award-winning Dixon’s Distilled Spiritsis making a splash in North America’s booming craft distilling industry.

Leading the charge is Dixon’s Wicked Citrus Gin, recently named Best Canadian Gin in the Contemporary category for the second straight year by Gin Magazine’s 2018 World Gin Awards. Dixon’s Wicked Licorice Gin, coming to the LCBO this fall, was named Best Canadian Old Tom Gin. The industry recognition is another sign that Dixon’s no-nonsense focus on flavour and craftsmanship is a winning recipe for tapping into the market’s growing thirst for artisanal, small-batch spirits.

“We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished in just five years of being in business,” said Dixon’s co-founder Jeremie (JD) Dixon. “One thing we realized early on is that we’re very good gin makers, so we’ve focused a lot of our efforts on developing premium products like Wicked Citrus Gin and Gin Fusion Sparkling Lemon Cocktail, which we introduced in the spring.”

While today’s consumers are drinking less alcohol in general, they’re also more willing to spend a little more for high-quality, local products. Shifting demographics and consumer tastes are also fuelling expansion of the craft distilling sector in the United States, where the industry is expected to post a compound annual growth rate of 26 per cent over the next four years, according to a new report by Technavio market research.

“We’re seeing the potential for similar growth here in Canada,” said Dixon. “Consumers are more health conscious, so they’re drinking less, but they’re also placing a high value on authenticity and flavour. They want a high-quality, local product that’s made with passion and has a good story behind it.

“That’s where we deliver — we use only the best Ontario-grown ingredients, and we distill our gin 18 times, compared to the industry average of three to five times. The result is wicked smooth with a hint of citrus and peppery spice that’s perfect for a refreshing gin and tonic, or as a base in your favourite cocktail.”
